Setting Tongues WAGging

Renee Enright, Emma Clapham and Sarah Ottens chat about football, fashion and their favourite place.

Corey Enright, Tom Hawkins and Brad Ottens have earned their claws as successful players of the Geelong Football Club. But three pretty kitties really make these Cats purr. CHERIE DONNELLAN talks to Renee Enright, Emma Clapham and Sarah Ottens about their careers, thoughts on football and home lives.

Sarah, you work for Bellarine Community Health – what does your job entail?

I work in community development and health promotion, based at Point Lonsdale. My job involves talking to the community about how we can improve our local health service, looking at the influences on health and wellbeing at a local level such as walking tracks, access to fruit and vegetables, safe places to hang out, and exploring ways to improve them for better health. It’s nice to work in the community I grew up in, it’s a meaningful job and I learn something new every day.

Renee, tell us about your fashion styling career.

I completed my Diploma in Fashion Design at Geelong’s Gordon TAFE and then studied professional photo, film, and TV personal styling. I get to work at the amazing Westfield, where my job is different every day – from personal style sessions, to hosting fashion events or styling photo shoots like this one for GC (check out pages 56 to 65). I’m also going to teach a new fashion styling course at Gordon come July.

Emma, you’ve recently left your account management role at ACP – what’s your next career move?

Leaving ACP was a big decision because I love the company and loved my job, but unfortunately I found the commuting too tiring and needed a change. So at the moment I am working on a few of my own projects and look forward to sharing them with everyone in the near future.

What do you ladies think about the term ‘WAG’?

Sarah: Some people’s connotations of a football WAG can often be a little removed from the reality. Being an AFL footballer’s wife or girlfriend is really no different to being anyone else’s partner.

Renee: The term has such a stigma attached to it but when you break it down it is actually just a correct abbreviation – we are wives and girlfriends. Our partners just happen to play football. I’m just a normal girl, a new mum and busy working on my career.
